A coat color mutation in the Syrian hamster

A coat color mutation in the Syrian hamster

Rep. Argonne natn. Lab. biol. med. Res. Div, 61-62

The pattern of pigment distribution in the mutant is described. Eye colour, body size and neonatal mortality were similar to those of the normal golden hamster, but av. litter size at birth and at weaning was only 4.9 and 3.2 resp. for mutants v 5.4 and 3.6 for the golden strain. 31 mutants with 30 normal golden sibs were produced from phenotypically normal golden parents. The sex ratio was 11 : 10.
