A comparison of molluscicidal and mollusc inhibitory activity of hycanthone and lucanthone and the effect of the drugs on the development of Schistosoma mansoni in the snail intermediate host, Australorbis glabratus

Lucanthone hydrochloride was found to be lethal to Biomphalaria glabrata at 8 p.p.m. whereas hycanthone sulphamate killed all of 20 snails at 32 p.p.m., 17 of 20 at 16 p.p.m. and only 2 of 30 at 8 p.p.m. At non-lethal concentrations neither of the drugs significantly affected the growth or the reproductive ability of the snails.
