A contribution to the biology of flowering and nectar production in pear trees

A contribution to the biology of flowering and nectar production in pear trees

Nauchni Trudove Vissh Selskostopanski Institut "V. Kolarov", Plovdiv 19(5): 73-87

A study was carried out from 1963-1966 on flowering, and nectar production and sugar content of 8 pear cvs grown on alluvial soil at an altitude of 153 m in the Plovdiv region. The trees did not begin flowering until the effective temperature sum reached 140.1 to 197. 5 degrees C. Nectar production and flowering in individual cvs continued for 4.8 to 9.1 days, largely depending on the weather. The florets produced nectar for 24 hours.
