Unsaponifiable matter of margarine is extracted and chromatographed on neutral alumina, The alpha - and beta -carotene in the yellow eluate are separated on magnesium oxide and the colourless eluate of vitamin is passed through a column of alkaline alumina. Concentrations are measured by spectrophotometer.
