The emergence of the pesticide-resistant Ridge-lands and Biarra strains of B. microplus is described, and the mechanisms of resistance are discussed. Resistance factors are given towards 59 standard acaricides. Dursban and bromophos ethyl still give satisfactory control of these strains but, being cholinesterase inhibitors, may eventually cease to be effective.
