An approach to rural poverty. Results of a pilot-survey in the area covered by the Neubourg (Eure) rural centre

An approach to rural poverty. Results of a pilot-survey in the area covered by the Neubourg (Eure) rural centre

Econ. rur, Paris. 64(2): 33-45

Rural poverty is scattered and isolated throughout the area and appears to have both social and financial causes. Some 16 per cent. of the population are considered poor. They are evenly spread over the age structure, but very unevenly over the villages. The poor family is characterized by a large number of children and many individuals living under the same roof. The per caput income is half that of the rest of the population, lack of food and sickness being the two main concerns.
