An examination of the biological and economic characteristics of black currant varieties

In trials with 54 varieties heterostyly was found to be innate in nearly all the varieties tested. Roodknop, Boskoop Giant and Dutch Black were poor pollinators. The earliest varieties were Primorsk Champion, Golubka, Pamiat Mitchurina and Silvergeiter's Black. The heaviest croppers were Lee's Black, Rosenthals Larigtraubige and Silvergeiter's Black, whereas the largest fruits were found on Silvergeiter's Black, Boskoop Giant, Goliath, Cotswold Cross, Westwick Triumph, Bogatir and Pobeda.
