During germination of freshly-harvested seeds of the non-dormant groundnut TMV 2, the ascorbic-acid content increased almost linearly for the 1st 5 days from 35 /u, g in the entire seed to 284 micro g in the seedling. Ascorbic-acid content rose rapidly in the embryo-axis from 24 h onwards, but in the cotyledons it increased rapidly on the 1st day, was constant on the 2nd day and then increased up to the 5th day.
