Behaviour of nitrogen in mineral arable soil. 3. The effect of fertilizers, soil pH and soil moisture on gaseous nitrogen losses

Behaviour of nitrogen in mineral arable soil. 3. The effect of fertilizers, soil pH and soil moisture on gaseous nitrogen losses

Bulletin, Tokai-Kinki National Agricultural Experiment Station. 21, 135-150

When KNO3 or (NH4)2SO4 was applied to an upland soil in the presence of O2, N2O was produced especially from moist soil. KNO2 application in the absence of O2 markedly increased the production of N2O. Fairly large amounts of NH3 were produced from urea or NH4NO3 applied to soil of high pH particularly from less moist soils. Small amounts of NO2 were produced by urea and by KNO3 or NH4NO3 on soil of low pH.
