Biochemical, morphological and haematological changes in guinea-pigs fed with cholesterol diets having a different fatty acid composition

Biochemical, morphological and haematological changes in guinea-pigs fed with cholesterol diets having a different fatty acid composition

Cor et Vasa 12(4): 291-302

Guineapigs were given a diet rich in saturated fatty acids and with or without 0.3% cholesterol for 18 weeks. The weight of liver and spleen increased 3 times and there were accumulations of cholesterol in liver and adrenals, a decrease in liver glycogen and phospholipids and an increase in blood lipids closely correlated with the development of hypercholesterolaemia.
