Biometrical investigations on morphological udder characters of cows at early and late stages of the first and third lactation

15 udder measurements were determined on 539 Black Pied Lowland cows during the 6th and 38th wks. of lactation. Length and width of the udder were primarily affected by stage of lactation, whereas depth and distance from the ground depended more on lactation number. Stage and number of lactation had an almost equal influence on udder volume and space between fore and rear teats. Cows should be compared within stage and number of lactation.
