Brown leaf spot of Dieffenbachia

Brown leaf spot of Dieffenbachia

Plant Dis Report 50(9): 687-689

A severe leaf spot of several Dieffenbachia species was proved to be caused by a Leptosphaeria sp. morphologically similar to L. dumetorum Niessl. or L. senecionis (Fuckel) Winter. Mature leaves were more readily infected than young and the lower surface was more often infected than the upper surface. Symptoms developed within a month after inoculation. Relative humidity held continuosuly near 100% was not as favorable for infection as a range of 78 to 92%. Although symptoms vary somewhat on different species or varieties of Dieffenbachia, there were no significant differences in susceptibility.
