Bud break in apples and the relationship between the bud-break-flowering phenophase and air temperature

Bud break in apples and the relationship between the bud-break-flowering phenophase and air temperature

Kiserl. Kozlem, 62C: 1-3, 13-23. bibl. 7

Phonological observations were conducted for 15 years on 10 apple cvs grown on 16 rootstocks. The temperature requirement of Jonathan from 1 January to bud break (usually on 3-4 April) was 265 degrees C. without any notable rootstock effect having been observed. Bud break was very early in 1966 (1 March), when the mean temperature in February was 6.5 degrees , and very late in 1954 (27 April), when the February temperature was -7.6 degrees.
