Change in the chemical composition of wood caused by the bluestain fungus Pullularia pullulans(=Aureobasidium pullulans)

Change in the chemical composition of wood caused by the bluestain fungus Pullularia pullulans(=Aureobasidium pullulans)

Holz Roh- u. Werkstoff. 22: 11, 405-9

Studies on Scots Pine wood showed that P. pullulans caused wood breakdown by depolymerization of the carbohydrates. Ca. 7% of the cellulose and 34% of the hemicelluloses (pentosans) is lost, and more of the hemicelluloses is degraded enzymatically. Bluestain does not affect the lignin.
