Comparisons were made between groups of Holstein-Friesian cows fed maize silage ad lib. with concentrates at 2 levels, or complete feeds ad lib. in which concentrate to roughage ratios were either 60: 40 or 70: 30. Performance was studied over 3 lactations. Intakes of DM and TDN by the 4 groups were not significantly different, nor were yields of milk and milk fat, and fat and protein %.
