Competition for light and nutrients by Bromus mollis and Erodium botrys

Competition for light and nutrients by Bromus mollis and Erodium botrys

Dissertation Abstracts B, The Sciences and Engineering 27(3): 704

ISSN/ISBN: 0420-073X

mollis and E. botrys were grown alone or in mixture at 400-25, 000 plants/m2. In isolated plants, relative growth rates were equal, but rate of DM accumulation was much higher in E. botrys, mainly because it produced a larger amount of leaf area immediately after emergence. During early growth in pure stands, E. botrys yielded most at low and B. mollis at high densities. Maximum LAI and crop growth rate were much higher in B. mollis.
