Correlation and heritability of certain wood properties in Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda L.)

A study of 19 wood and tracheid characteristics was made to provide basic information for improving the wood quality of P. taeda. Wood samples were collected during summer 1960 from two open-pollinated progeny tests, one, representing six female parents, in W. central Louisiana, the other (eight female parents) in W. central Georgia, the tests being 7 and 8 years old respectively. Measurements were made of % late-wood (l.w.) and sp. gr. of the core.
