Crossability of the South American wild potato species Solanum acaule Bitt. with the cultivated Solanum tuberosum L

Crosses were made between S. acaule ssp. albicans, 2n= 72, as parent, and S. tuberosum, 2n = 48. With 90 F1 clones as parents successful back crosses were made to diploid or tetraploid clones which included "haploids" of S. tuberosum and 5. phureja. Approximately 100 BC1 clones produced seed when used as parents in further back crossing to diploid and tetraploid clones and as parents to tetraploid 5. tuberosum clones. Over 10, 000 seeds were obtained from the F1 and BC1 crosses.
