Current knowledge of the distribution and epidemiology of Wuchereria bancrofti and Culex pipiens fatigans, in the countries of tropical Africa is reviewed. (About 200 references are cited.) The complex of forms making up C.p.fatigans, the intrinsic and extrinsic vectorial capability of this mosquito and the effect of urbanization and economic development on its distribution are discussed.
