Cutting out-a possibility for treating gununosis and necroses in sweet cherries

Because gummosis can frequently be induced by any kind of injury pruning has not been considered as a means of promoting wound healing. However, when some 200 wounds on all woody parts of trees in various localities and of different cvs were treated by cutting out their injured tissue, good healing ensued. In untreated wounds the injured tissue prevented complete callus formation, the trees produced more gum and the wounds enlarged.
