Diapausal aestivation of clover root curculio, Sitona hispidulus Fabr. (Col., Curculionidae)

Diapausal aestivation of clover root curculio, Sitona hispidulus Fabr. (Col., Curculionidae)

Suom. hyont. Aikak, 32: 2, 146-152

The following is based largely on the authors' summary. In Finland, Sitona hispidulus (F.), which infests clover, aestivates in mid-summer. Between the end of June and mid-August, oviposition is interrupted and feeding and movement are at a minimum. Further observations were made on individuals collected from red clover. After the termination of the spring oviposition period, feeding continued for an average of about 10 days and began again 20 days prior to the autumn oviposition period.
