Cocksfoot/Ladino clover and cocksfoot/lucerne mixtures grown in containers measuring 1 x 1 x 0.5 m were cut at (a) 10 cm or (b) 5 cm and received either (c) natural rainfall or (d) sufficient water to maintain the water-table at a level 15-20 cm below the surface. Soil-moisture content had little effect on the growth of cocksfoot. The moist soil favoured Ladino clover and the drier soil favoured lucerne.
