The following is based largely on the authors' abstract. Factors that might affect the pathogenicity of Bacillus thuringiensis used to control field populations of Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) and Ostrinia nubilalis (Hb.) were investigated in the laboratory in Iowa. The bacterium caused only minor changes in the pH of the haemolymph and hindgut of the larvae, but changes in the foregut and midgui were considerable.
