In a glasshouse trial in 1968, seed of sorghum Feterita Gedaref and Dabar were 'hardened' 3 times by being allowed to absorb distilled water in amounts equivalent to 50% of their air-dry weight and then allowed to dry to their original air-dry weight. Hardened and unhardened seed were sown in soil re-wetted from (a) 10% and (b) 50% of field capacity, and (c) in soil which was not re-wetted during the trial.
