Male rats of Sprague-Dawley strain were given diets containing 24.2% coconut or maize oil or an equal mixture of each for 14 to 18 weeks. Half of the animals in each diet group were exercised by running in motor-driven work wheels; during the final 10 to 14 weeks the exercised animals ran continuously for 60 min at 1.0 mph or faster each day; 24h after the final exercise blood samples were taken and livers were removed for estimation of cholesterol.
