More micro-organisms but less varieties were found in the rhizosphere than in the surrounding soil. Non-sporogenic bacteria, especially Pseudomonas and Bacterium, were predominant in the rhizospbere, with a smaller number of sporogenic bacteria, mostly Bacillus cereus and B. mycoides. Fungi were few and actinomycetes almost absent. Rhizosphere of maize and pea contained more micro-organisms than that of wheat.
