Cows given grass silage with high dry matter content (haylage) of good quality as roughage in a balanced ration produced more milk with higher fat content than cows given maize silage and hay. They ate 28 to 31% more roughage per unit liveweight and required 12.75% less digestible protein and 7.27% less starch equivalent per kg fat-corrected milk produced. (From summary.)-T.
