Effect of natural fluoride concentration of human tooth enamel on fluoride uptake in vitro

Human deciduous teeth were obtained from 2 geographical regions where F in the water was 0.3 and 1 ppm. Permanent teeth, from persons under or over 25 years old, were obtained from another region where the water contained 0.4 to 1 ppm F. Two blocks of enamel were cut from each tooth, and from one of them 4 consecutive thin layers were removed by dipping the intact enamel surface in HClO4 for periods of 20, 30, 60 and 120 sec.
