Effect of rates and times of nitrogen application on growth, yield and quality of oat

In trials during 2 years, oat NP 101 was given a basal dressing of 56 kg P2O5 + 33 kg K2O/ha and 0, 40, 80 or 120 kg N/ha at different times. As the rate of N increased from nil to 120 kg/ha, average grain yields increased from 25.22 to 33.99 hkg/ha, protein contents from 8.54 to 10.25%, and straw yields from 47.19 to 63.41 hkg/ha. Yields were higher when the N was applied as a single dose at sowing than as 2 or 3 split dressings at sowing, tillering and flowering.
