Effect of ratios of feed and nutrients in several feeds on rate of growth, feed efficiency and quality of pigs killed at different final weights and on yield of fresh meat and that for canning, and profitability. 2. Effect of different protein levels on rate of growth, feed utilisation and carcass quality of fattening pigs

Effect of different protein levels on rate of growth, feed utilisation and carcass quality of fattening pigs

Poljoprivredna Znanstvena Smotra. 25: 8, 13

Dutch Landrace pigs in 4 groups of 10 were fattened from 25 to 110 kg. Diets at the start had 21, 19, 17 or 15% crude protein, reduced for each group by 2 percentage units at 50 kg and again at 90 kg. Average daily gains were 678, 649, 648 and 707 g, for intakes of 4.52, 4.73, 4.71 and 3.79 kg/kg gained. Differences were not significant. More protein generally gave leaner carcasses with thinner back fat.
