The investigation was carried out in 1966-1968 with the cvs William Turner, Balcombe Perfection and Luyona. Having reached a height of 30 cm. on 20 July, the plants were kept in darkness from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. dairy until 1 September. Short day treatment during these months when the natural day length exceeded 13 hours accelerated flowering. The growing period was reduced by about 11/2 months and it was possible to determine precisely the date of flowering.
