In 3-year trials at 32 centres, ammonium sulfate, calcium nitrate and urea were applied at 0, 56 and 112 kg N/ha to sugar beet at sowing, at singling or at both sowing and singling as split dressings. The different N sources generally gave similar yields. 56 kg N/ha gave significant yield responses each year, and 112 kg were superior to 56 kg in 2 of the 3 years.
