Botrytis cinera and Pseudomonas phaseolicola failed to become established when inoculated into a steam-sterilized soil immediately after sterilization; a minimum time lag of 21 days was necessary for the establishment of Botrytis. Erwinia carotovora became established only when inoculated within a few hours of the steam treatment. Development of Actinomucor repens was stimulated for six days after sterilization and then decreased.
