Effect of vitamin A supplementation in high and low concentrate rations on plasma carotene and vitamin A levels and vitamin A potency of milk fat

Effect of vitamin A supplementation in high and low concentrate rations on plasma carotene and vitamin A levels and vitamin A potency of milk fat

J. Dairy Sci 48(6): 792-93

Cows were fed high or low ratios of roughages to concentrates (60: 40 or 15: 85) with or without 82, 530 I.U. vitamin A supplementation daily for experimental periods of 14 days. Carotene intake was 217 mg./day for the high roughage and 56 mg./day for the low roughage group. Plasma carotene values were influenced by carotene intake but neither plasma nor milk fat vitamin A was increased by vitamin A supplementation.
