During 7 weeks, 5, 10 or 20 mg carotenal was added per kg feed, or 5, 15 or 50 mg carophyll as the pure carotenoic acid ethyl ester, or 3 mg canthaxanthin for 5 weeks, or 2 or 1 mg of it with, respectively, 3 and 6 mg of the ethyl ester or carotenal or 9 mg carotenal alone, or for 4 weeks 1, 3 or 6% paprika alone. Carotenal and the ethyl ester produced golden yellow yolks and canthaxanthin and paprika carotenoids reddish ones.
