Br. abortus strains were isolated from 167 cows in 97 'brucellosis problem herds'; -50% were from cows officially vaccinated with strain 19 Br. abortus vaccine. Of 125 isolates typed antigenically, 100 were biotype 1 (87 Br. abortus, 13 Br. melitensis) and 25 biotype 2 (12 Br. abortus, 13 Br. melitensis).
