Experimental calcium deficiency rickets in lambs

Experimental calcium deficiency rickets in lambs

Indian J Veterinary Sci Anim Husb 35(4): 345-349

Calcium deficiency rickets was produced experimentally in growing lambs by feeding them a diet low in Ca, consisting of blood-meal, sugar and bagasse. Symptoms of rickets characterized by stiffness in gait, weakness and bending of fore-limbs were observed after 2-3 months of experimental feeding. Characteristic histopathological changes associated with rickets were observed in costo-chondral junction, shaft of bone and teeth.
