Cytological and morphological studies were made of hybrids derived from crosses and back crosses of Ae. columnaris, which has the genotype CUMC, with Ae. biuncialis (CuMb), Ae. variabilis (CuSV) and Ae. triaristata (CuMt). In the most closely related cross combination, Ae. triaristata x Ae. columnaris, introgression was confirmed cytologically and morphologically. In Ae. variabilis x Ae. columnaris introgression involving two homologous chromosomes or chromosome segments was detected.
