The following is based almost entirely on the author's abstract. Among 27 cucumber varieties tested in an insectary in Finland, there were some on which the life-span of Tetranychus urticae Koch proved substantially shorter and its fecundity lower (both in total number of offspring and rate of reproduction) than on the other varieties. The rate of development of individual mites on the different varieties did not differ significantly, but the rates of mortality did. This variation was not as marked on cucumbers grown in normal conditions.
