Abstract
During 14 years a total of 451 Black Pied Lowland cows with 1142 lactations were studied; most were in their first to fifth lactation, some in their tenth or more. Average steady weight was reached at 6 years and was about 610 kg. Each winter there was controlled individual feeding in stalls; once or twice for most cows, and up to 8 or 9 times for some. From the first to the fourth lactation 55 cows were fed individually. One cow spent 3 months on an automatic weighing machine.
