Abstract
64 Yorkshire gilts were randomly assigned after the 2nd oestrous period to 8 experimental groups. Groups 1-6 were flushed (full-fed 9 lb/gilt/day) from 7th day of the oestrous cycle prior to breeding. Group 1 were slaughtered 3 days after breeding and group 2 were full-fed for 40 days after breeding. Groups 3-6 had their feed reduced to 5.5 or 2.75 Ib at time of breeding or 10 days post breeding.
