Field trials involving 720 lambs were carried out on eight farms with a history of parasitic gastroenteritis in three areas of Great Britain. Morantel tartrate at two dosage levels, given at four weekly intervals, resulted in highly significant growth responses during a 12 to 16 week observation period. At 10 and 7.5 mg/kg, the mean daily wt. gains were 0.242 and 0.247 kg, respectively, compared with 0.224 for controls (8 and 10.3% improvements, respectively). The difference between the two dosage levels was not significant. The worm burdens were light to moderate in the controls, with Ostertagia circumcincta, O. trifurcata and Nematodirus battus predominant.
