Fixation of the NH4 in (NH4) SO4, aqueous NH3 and CO(NH2)2 (all labelled with 15N) by neutral chernozem, derno-carbonate and bottomland soils varied with soil type but not with N source. In acid derno-podzolic soil, NH4 fixation was greater from aqueous NH3 than from (NH4) SO4.
