G. Effects of nonionic surfactants on root growth and cation uptake

G. Effects of nonionic surfactants on root growth and cation uptake

Pl. Physiol. 39: 3, 502-7. bibl. 17

A number of representative non-ionic surfactants were shown to repress the elongation of the primary root of cucumber seedlings at a concentration of 0.01 % v/v. Higher concentrations of selected compounds were more inhibitory and depressed the development of root hairs and lateral roots. In general, the polyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters were less inhibitory to roots than those with ether or ether-alcohol structures.
