In plot trials in 1962-4, groundnut Ashford (alternately branched, spreading-bunch type) and Barbeton (sequentially branched, upright-bunch type) were sown at 40, 60 or 80 cm between ridges and 15 or 30 cm between plants on the ridges. In 1965 the effects of spacing and arrangement on the yield of Ashford were studied using a components-of-yield analysis. The highest yield was obtained with a spacing of 60 x 15 cm with Ashford and of 40 x 15 cm with Barbeton.
