The following is virtually the authors' summary. Callosobruchus chinensis (L.) develops well when fed on azuki beans (Phaseolus aureus (radiatus) but not on kidney beans (P. vulgaris), which contain unknown substances inhibiting its early development. On the other hand, Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boh.) develops on beans of both species, though more rapidly on the former.
