Abstract
For part 10 see Abst. 6448, Vol. 31. 11. Pelleted diets with 67% roughage had lucerne and mixed hays, soya bran flakes or beet pulp. They were given to 23 Holstein and 20 Jersey calves from 3 days to 16 weeks of age. From 17 to 26 weeks the ration of all calves had lucerne hay 6 and concentrate mixture 1 part. Calves given the soya bran flakes gained more from 8 to 16 weeks than those given lucerne. During that period intake of total digestible nutrients (TDN) was significantly greater in the groups given soya bran and beet pulp. Digestibility of dry matter, cellulose, crude fibre, Ca, P and TDN at 16 weeks were all significantly greater for calves given soya bran or beet pulp than for those given lucerne. Efficiency of feed utilization did not differ among groups.
