The spread of spray drops after impact on foliage is one important factor in determining the distribution of pesticides over the target. The impaction process can be divided into several stages in which the liquid either spreads over the surface or retracts from the area already wetted. The energies involved in the first two stages of initial spread and subsequent retraction are considered from a theoretical viewpoint.
