This is a review of experiments on the green manuring of sugar cane carried out in Uttar Pradesh during the last 35 years. Cane yield was increased by green manuring with a legume crop, and further increased when superphosphate had been applied to the legume crop. When used as a supplement to green manure FYM was as effective as either oil cake or ammonium sulfate. Paddy husk was a useful additive for improving soil texture when sowing green manure monsoon crops.
