Incorporation of radioactive valine into proteins at subcellular levels by mammary and liver tissues of rabbit under normal and lactating conditions

Virgin and lactating rabbits were injected intraperitoneally with DL-valine (10 micro Ci/100 g body wt.) and killed after 24 h. Incorporation of 14C into the proteins of the microsomal, mitochondrial, nuclear and soluble fractions of homogenates of mammary gland and liver was studied. In the mammary gland, the effect of lactation was to increase the incorporation of 14C into nuclear, microsomal, supernatant and mitochondrial proteins by 7, 25, 29 and 40 x respectively.
